It is situated in historic Névian, a traditional winemaking village in the Languedoc area of the south of France. The village is surrounded by vineyards and there are many hiking and mountain bike trails nearby. As part of the Orbieu Valley area, Névian village is part of a designated Natura 2000 site – one of the European areas where you will find exceptional flora and fauna. The Narbonnais Regional Natural Park is also close by. This is a vast area of coastline, garrigue, grasslands and wetlands recognised for its exceptional biodiversity. The natural park is home to 350 species of birds (out of the total 840 found in the whole of Europe!) and 2000 species of plants.

Vineyards near Névian

The village of Nevian has been a centre of viticulture for hundreds of years. For hundreds of years the village grew and milled cereals, produced olive oil, cultivated vines and farmed animals. Then, like many of the winemaking villages in the Languedoc, it moved to a mono-culture of vines, accelerated by the arrival of the railway. Nevian benefited from a railway station being built close by in Villedaigne and its proximity to Narbonne for easy transportation of the crop. Today there are just over 1200 inhabitants in Nevian and winemaking remains central to the life of the village.

When to Visit

Our Mediterranean climate means long hot dry summers, short, relatively mild, winters and warm, pleasant Springs and Autumns. Visitors come to the area all year round, but Easter is when the numbers begin to pick up. The main tourist season is in full swing between May and October, with peak months being July and August. If you are visiting as part of a large group we advise you to book your accommodation as early as possible, because larger properties get booked up well in advance.
